Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of dovetail joints does this jig make?
This jig is designed specifically for half-blind dovetail joints, making it ideal for drawer construction and cabinet work where the joints are hidden from the front.
Can I use this with a compact router?
Definitely. It works with any fixed-base router, whether it’s a compact trim router or a full-sized model.
What router bit does it use?
It comes with a ¼” shank, ½” dovetail bit, ready to use out of the box. You can also use other ½” dovetail bits with the same shank size if you need replacements.
Is setup complicated for beginners?
Not at all. The process is straightforward, and once you do one or two drawers, it becomes second nature. A setup guide is included, and we’re working on video walkthroughs to help even more.
I’ve never used a dovetail jig before—how do I set it up?
No worries! We’ve got full step-by-step video tutorials with Rich right on the product page. He walks you through the exact setup and first cuts, even if it’s your first time.
How do I align my boards properly in the jig?
You’ll use the dual clamping bars to hold your tail and pin boards at the correct positions on each side of the jig. There are stops, which need to be adjusted, ensuring that the boards are in the right position, side to side, as compared to the template. The videos show you how to line everything up so your joints come out perfectly aligned.
How do I make sure both sides of the drawer are symmetrical?
The jig’s mirrored clamping sides make this easy. You’ll just flip your boards accordingly and clamp on the opposite side to match your layout exactly.
How do I avoid gaps in the dovetail joints?
Make sure your boards are clamped tight, your bit depth is set correctly, and the jig is secured. Test cuts help fine-tune everything—and we cover all of that in the tutorial.
