Frequently Asked Questions
What board thicknesses can this jig handle?
The jig adjusts continuously to accommodate board thicknesses from ½” up to 2”. This gives you more flexibility than jigs with only preset stops.
Can I use longer boards with this jig?
Absolutely. The drilling block comes out, to be used in the short block and clamped to the end of longer boards. In addition, the Sawinery Pocket Hole Jig includes extension arms that act like an extended fence—making it stable and easy to support wider boards during setup.
What kind of drill bit does this jig use?
It uses a 3/8” stepped drill bit, two of which are included in the kit along with a stop collar to control depth.
Can this jig be used for plywood or MDF?
Definitely. It works well with plywood, MDF, hardwood, and softwood—just be sure to adjust for thickness and use screws appropriate for the material.
What’s the advantage of the detachable short jig?
It allows you to drill pocket holes in places that a full jig setup can't reach—perfect for repairs or tight corners inside cabinets and boxes.
Where can I learn how to use a pocket hole jig in general?
If you’re new to pocket holes, we’ve put together a full learning section just for you. Scroll down to the Pocket Hole Joinery Academy on this page —Rich walks you through everything, from basics to pro tips.
Do I need to register for the warranty?
Nope! Your Pocket Hole Jig is automatically backed by our lifetime warranty—no registration forms, no fuss. Just keep your order info in case you ever need support.
Can I take the jig apart for smaller projects or tight spaces?
Yes! The jig includes a detachable short drilling block that’s perfect for quick fixes or drilling inside tight cabinet corners.
What kind of screws should I use with this jig?
You should always use pocket hole screws for pocket hole joinery. These screws are "washer head screws." If you use standard wood screws, which have an angled head for countersinking, the screw head will go too far into the wood, causing it to split. The jig works with all standard pocket hole screws—coarse-thread for softwoods, fine-thread for hardwoods. We include a sample pack to get you started.
